Over the last couple of years, but especially since the beginning of 2021, I have noticed an increase in discussions around the topic of ascension within the spiritual community.
I have seen many ascension Facebook groups appear and have noticed the topic consistently show up in posts on various social media and discussion platforms. Comments like “I cannot wait until we ascend,” or “I cannot wait to be done with this plane", or the ubiquitous "#ascension,” etc.
These comments triggered some questions for me:
Why are people so focused on ascension?
And, why now?
Both questions share the same answer.
The 21st century had already been hard for much of the world, and then 2020 hit.
The health crisis severely impacted the sense of security and safety that the “Western World” took for granted. Many people who were already spiritually inclined saw ascension as a way out. Out of the fear. Out of the pain. Out of the uncertainty. Out of this world.
The mothership, so to speak.
We reached a tipping point. I discuss this in one of the videos on my YouTube channel.
But ascension, in my opinion, is not about leaving behind earthly things behind or going to a higher plane.
Ascension is about expansion. It’s about achieving a broader and deeper awareness of yourself as an eternal and multi-dimensional soul, in connection with the universe, while still in your physical body.
Much like enlightenment, ascension implies a journey. And like any journey, it will present obstacles along the way. There will be pain, discomfort and fear, but there will also be joy, ease and connection.
This is all part of the human experience which your soul, in its infinite wisdom, chose for your expansion.
Ascension is happening right here, right now. No one and nothing is coming to deliver us from this plane. It is up to us to come into awareness, heal, experience and grow.
In the words of Marcel Proust:
"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes."
Ascension is also not something to measure ourselves against. It is ok if you are still healing or need to take a break. This is a lifelong endeavor and we all evolve at our own pace.
There is no timeline and no limited seating on this journey; you are not going to be left stranded. Those who are currently ascending are not going to fly away into space and leave the "less evolved" behind.
When you are ready, the mothership will be there.
